DXB named world’s busiest international airport for the 12th consecutive year

Dubai continues to strengthen its position as a global aviation hub, with Dubai International Airport once again named the world’s busiest international airport for the 12th consecutive year in 2026.

The airport handled 95.2 million passengers in 2025 and connects more than 260 destinations across six continents, reinforcing Dubai’s role as a key gateway for global travel and trade.

Despite facing regional airspace disruptions earlier in the year, DXB maintained uninterrupted operations. Between February and April, the airport supported the movement of over 6 million passengers, alongside more than 32,000 aircraft movements and 213,000 tonnes of cargo.

In the first quarter of 2026, DXB handled 18.6 million passengers. India continued to be the largest source market, followed by Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, and Pakistan. London remained the busiest city destination, followed by Mumbai and Jeddah.

Operationally, cargo volumes and aircraft movements saw a short-term decline during the same period, but efficiency indicators such as baggage handling remained stronger than global averages. This highlights the airport’s continued focus on service quality and operational performance, even during challenging conditions.

Bottom line

Looking ahead, long-term expansion plans are also progressing at Dubai World Central – Al Maktoum International Airport. This development is expected to play a key role in supporting future aviation growth and reinforcing Dubai’s position as a leading global hub.
