Dubai opens new bridge to Mall of the Emirates

Since the beginning of 2025, Dubai has been upgrading its infrastructure through major projects to enhance mobility and connectivity. A key development is the new bridge on Sheikh Zayed Road, which makes commuting quicker and more convenient for both residents and visitors.

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority, in collaboration with Majid Al Futtaim Properties, has opened a 300-meter single-lane bridge that provides direct access for motorists traveling from Abu Dhabi and Jebel Ali to the Mall of the Emirates. The bridge significantly reduces travel time from 10 minutes to just one minute and can accommodate up to 900 vehicles per hour.

The bridge is part of a broader upgrade around the Mall of the Emirates, including expanded entrances, improved intersections, upgraded pedestrian walkways, and new cycling tracks. These enhancements aim to make the area more accessible while ensuring smoother traffic flow and increased safety for everyone.

Along with the new bridge, the Umm Suqeim junction has been upgraded, including a wider southbound ramp and better access to existing car parks. About 2.5 kilometers of roads have been improved, six signalized intersections upgraded, and the bus station at the Mall of the Emirates Metro Station redesigned.

Looking ahead, the RTA plans to launch the Umm Suqeim Street Improvement Project, extending 6 kilometers from Jumeirah Street to Al Khail Road. The project will upgrade six major junctions, including Jumeirah Street, Al Wasl Street, Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road.

This development will include four bridges and two tunnels totaling 3.45 kilometers, aiming to eliminate traffic overlaps and improve flow. Key tunnels will be constructed at the junctions of Umm Suqeim Street with Jumeirah Street and Al Wasl Street, each featuring two lanes in both directions.

Additional bridges and widened lanes will increase capacity along Umm Suqeim Street and enhance connectivity to nearby areas such as the Al Quoz Industrial Area.

The bigger picture

The new bridge and nearby road upgrades show Dubai’s active approach to improving its roads and city planning. By using smart traffic solutions and modern designs, the city is making travel easier while reinforcing its status as a leading destination for business and lifestyle.
