Dubai Fountain Reopening Date Announced

Dubai has long been a city where the extraordinary becomes the norm. From the soaring heights of the Burj Khalifa to the elegance of its artificial islands and the dynamism of its skyline, the emirate consistently redefines global benchmarks in innovation, and ambition.

Among its most distinguished landmarks, the Dubai Fountain is now undergoing a significant redevelopment poised to further enhance its prominence on the global stage.

Situated at the base of the Burj Khalifa and next to The Dubai Mall, the Dubai Fountain has long impressed audiences with its meticulously choreographed performances, blending water, light, and music into a unified spectacle.

The Dubai Fountain was officially closed in April 2025 to undergo a large-scale redevelopment. Emaar, the developer behind this globally renowned landmark, began the process by draining the 30-acre Burj Khalifa Lake to enable the implementation of major upgrades. The fountain is expected to reopen on Wednesday, October 1, according to the announced schedule.

What to Expect

Upon its reopening, the Dubai Fountain is set to reemerge significantly enhanced. The redevelopment includes the integration of advanced technology, refined choreography, and a fully upgraded sound and lighting system. In a city defined by its grand displays, the revitalised fountain is expected to deliver an even more striking and sophisticated performance.

The project includes the replacement of the original flooring, which was prone to cracking, with a high-strength concrete base designed to provide improved water insulation and structural stability. Robotic systems will be introduced to manage the coordination of water and lighting elements, ensuring a high degree of accuracy and consistency in every performance.

The fountain was previously capable of projecting 22,000 gallons of water to heights of up to 140 metres, synchronised with classical, Arabic, and contemporary music. Following the planned upgrades, future performances are anticipated to offer greater visual intensity, enhanced immersion, and improved technological precision.

Enhancing the Surrounding Experience

Emaar is installing 500 metres of high-definition digital screens along the promenade, designed to deliver a visually engaging environment. These installations aim to sustain visitor interest and pedestrian flow throughout the renovation period.

To mitigate the temporary impact on nearby commercial activity, Emaar has implemented a rent exemption for 50 food and beverage establishments with terraces facing the fountain. The waiver will apply from June through September. These venues, which ordinarily benefit from prominent views of the Dubai Fountain and Burj Khalifa, are essential to the area’s overall atmosphere and footfall.
