Dubai is embarking on a groundbreaking project with the construction of a new terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport. This initiative aims to make the airport the largest in the world, eventually transferring all operations from Dubai International Airport in the coming years.
The announcement came from UAE PM HH Sheikh Mohammad on X, revealing that the construction would commence for AED 128 billion. This new terminal is a key part of Dubai Aviation Corporation’s strategy, set to transform Dubai into a central global hub for aviation.
Al Maktoum International Airport will have a remarkable capacity of 260 million passengers annually. It will be five times larger than the current Dubai International Airport, with 400 aircraft gates and five parallel runways to efficiently manage air traffic.
The project will integrate cutting-edge aviation technologies, marking a significant advancement in the sector. This innovative approach will set a new standard in aviation infrastructure worldwide and position Dubai as a leader in the industry.
HH Sheikh Mohammad emphasised that the project aims to build an entire city around the airport in Dubai South. This future-oriented vision includes hosting the world’s leading companies in logistics and air transport and providing housing for one million people.
