Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority is set to begin a series of road improvement projects across 28 locations between July and September under its ‘Quick Wins’ initiative. The programme is part of the RTA’s ongoing efforts to improve traffic flow, enhance road safety and strengthen connectivity across the city.
Most of the work will take place during the summer holidays, when traffic volumes are lower, allowing the projects to be completed faster with minimal disruption to motorists.
One of the major upgrades is the expansion of Emirates Road, where two new lanes will be added along a 5-kilometre stretch from Sharjah towards Al Amardi Street. The project is expected to reduce congestion and shorten peak-hour travel times by 25%.
The RTA will also improve traffic movement at key locations, including the intersection of Trade Centre Street and Marasi Drive in Business Bay, Latifa Bint Hamdan Street near Al Quoz Industrial Area, and Ras Al Khor Road towards Al Khail Road.
In preparation for the new school year, the authority is adding new parking facilities at Zayed Educational Complex in Al Mizhar 2 and Horizon International School in Umm Al Sheif. These improvements are expected to make school pick-up and drop-off safer while reducing congestion during busy hours.
Bottom line
By improving key roads, school zones and growing communities, the programme aims to create a smoother and more efficient travel experience for residents and visitors across Dubai.
