Dubai launches major initiative for parks and cycling tracks

Dubai continues to set new standards in urban living, combining modern city life with sustainability and wellness. The city is now taking a significant step forward with the launch of a transformative urban model in Madinat Latifa and Al Yalayis, designed to bring green spaces, community facilities, and connectivity closer to residents’ homes.

Approved by Sheikh Hamdan, the project will create 152 new parks and over 33 kilometres of cycling paths, ensuring that every resident has a park within a 150-metre walk. This initiative aligns with the 20-Minute City concept, offering easy access to essential services and amenities while promoting active, healthy lifestyles.

The plan introduces central parks, community majlis, and wedding halls, transforming public spaces into hubs for social and cultural interaction. Shaded walkways will connect homes to schools, service centres, and retail areas, encouraging walking, cycling, and running as part of daily life.

Madinat Latifa will dedicate 11% of its area to parks, featuring 77 interconnected parks over 3,000 hectares and serving 141,000 residents in 18,500 homes, complemented by schools, clinics, mosques, and commercial hubs. Al Yalayis will host 75 parks along a vibrant green corridor spanning 1,108 hectares, providing housing for 66,000 people in 8,000 units.

The model revives the Fareej concept, creating integrated neighborhoods where homes, schools, parks, and service centres function together to strengthen community bonds. Parks and public squares are designed as interactive spaces, fostering engagement, participation, and a sense of belonging.

Alongside urban development, the Digital Resilience Policy was approved to safeguard Dubai’s advanced digital infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted services. These initiatives, together with the 2026 Executive Council agenda, reinforce Dubai’s commitment to sustainable growth, citizen welfare, family empowerment, and global leadership in urban planning.
