UAE tourism grows to $70bn as hotels use AI and smart systems

When you think of the UAE, tourism is often the first thing that comes to mind. The country has long been associated with luxury, world-class hospitality, and record-breaking attractions. But what is shaping the future of its tourism sector today goes far beyond hotels and landmarks. The UAE is redefining global hospitality through the integration of artificial intelligence, digital innovation, and sustainability.

In 2024, tourism and travel added $70 billion (AED257.3bn) to the UAE economy, representing 13% of GDP. The outlook for this year points to further expansion, with international visitor spending projected to reach $62.2 billion and domestic tourism rising to $16.3 billion, reflecting steady and broad-based growth across the sector.

Driving this growth is technology. From AI-powered personalisation and mobile check-ins to real-time data insights and cloud platforms, digital solutions have become the backbone of the UAE’s hospitality sector.

They not only enhance the overall guest experience but also advance the country’s sustainability agenda by lowering energy consumption, reducing emissions, and enabling precise measurement of carbon footprints.

More than 150 hotels across the UAE have already earned the “Sustainable Tourism” label by integrating digital systems that enhance energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact.

Alongside this, the introduction of smart entry systems, progressive holiday home regulations, and significant investment in 5G infrastructure highlight how innovation is being woven into every aspect of the country’s tourism landscape.

Industry leaders and global organisations alike are taking note. The UN World Tourism Organisation identifies AI as a catalyst for reshaping destinations, while research from the University of Málaga points to its role in enhancing service quality, optimising resources, and tailoring experiences in real time. In Dubai and beyond, hospitality leaders echo the same message: successful hotels are those that unify people, operations, and technology under a clear digital vision.

The bottom line

This approach ensures that the UAE is not just competing with other destinations but setting new standards. By combining sustainability with cutting-edge technology, the country is transforming tourism into a sector that is as forward-looking as it is profitable, reaffirming its status as a global hub and a leader in redefining the future of travel.

This transformation in the UAE’s tourism sector carries broader significance. The integration of AI, smart technologies, and sustainable practices is reinforcing the country’s reputation as a forward-looking global hub.

For industries connected to tourism, whether hospitality or real estate this renewed confidence is critical. A destination that demonstrates digital capability and commitment to sustainability builds trust, and trust remains the cornerstone for attracting long-term investment across every sector of the economy.
