In 2025, Dubai set a new benchmark in how cities can unite communities around health, fitness, and shared purpose. The Dubai Mallathon, a month-long initiative, did more than just promote physical activity, it brought together over 40,000 people, created a sense of belonging, and secured a Guinness World Record along the way.
The closing event at Dubai Hills Mall stood out as a defining moment. Bringing together 1,392 participants from different age groups and nationalities, the city secured a Guinness World Record for the largest mall run.Â
Over the course of the initiative, runners clocked more than 120 million steps on specially designed indoor tracks, offering a climate-controlled setting that promoted fitness and an active lifestyle throughout the summer.
This was more than just a sporting event; it reflected Dubai’s wider vision for community and well-being. Held under the leadership of Sheikh Hamdan, the initiative supported the goals of the ‘Year of Community’, the Dubai Social Agenda 33, and the Dubai Quality of Life Strategy 2033, all of which focus on wellness, inclusivity, and making fitness a regular part of everyday life.
The Mallathon was not limited to races; it included women-focused events, youth participation across all emirates, and strong support from government entities ranging from the Dubai Police to the Dubai Culture and Arts Authority. Even the closing 42-kilometre marathon celebrated inclusivity, with runners from different backgrounds and People of Determination competing side by side.
Fitness at the heart of Dubai’s development strategy
The success of the Dubai Mallathon was not just about breaking records or reaching big numbers, but about the spirit it created a shared belief that sport and wellness can be part of daily life. With over 40,000 people taking part, the event showed that health is a goal everyone can share, no matter their age, nationality, or background.
Dubai’s focus on well-being is not limited to sports. It also covers health, education, and safe spaces for the community. The Mallathon reflects this vision, built on values of access, inclusion, and planning ahead. By promoting active lifestyles today, Dubai is building a healthier and more connected future.
