UAE Launches 10-Year Blue Visa to Attract Sustainability Innovators

The United Arab Emirates has long been a beacon of progress, innovation, and forward-thinking policies. From its remarkable economic transformation to its commitment to sustainability, the nation has consistently positioned itself as a global leader in various sectors.

As part of this vision, the launch of the 10-year Blue Visa marks a significant milestone in global sustainability leadership. Introduced by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment in collaboration with the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Ports Security (ICP), this initiative is designed to recognize and support professionals who have demonstrated exceptional contributions to environmental protection and sustainability.

A Landmark Initiative in Sustainability

Announced during the World Governments Summit 2025 in Dubai, the Blue Visa program aims to attract and retain leading sustainability experts. The initial phase will see 20 distinguished thought leaders and innovators being awarded the Blue Visa, reinforcing the commitment to fostering environmental responsibility and sustainable development.

By offering this visa, the initiative seeks to create a vibrant community of experts dedicated to advancing sustainable solutions on both local and international levels.

Strengthening Environmental Leadership

The introduction of the Blue Visa builds upon a legacy of forward-thinking residency programs, following the success of the Golden and Green Residencies. This initiative further strengthens the country’s position as a global hub for innovation and environmental stewardship.

Dr. Amna Bint Abdullah Al Dahak, Minister of Climate Change and Environment, highlighted the strategic importance of the Blue Visa in attracting top-tier experts and innovators who can contribute to achieving ambitious sustainability goals. “This initiative aims to leverage their contributions to achieve ambitious national goals and build a sustainable future for the people of the UAE and the world,” she stated.

Application and Eligibility

Sustainability advocates and experts seeking the Blue Visa can apply through the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security. Alternatively, they may be nominated by competent authorities within the country. To streamline the application process, the ICP has introduced an electronic system that allows government agencies within the sustainability sector to submit applications online for approval.

Major General Suhail Saeed Al Khaili, Director-General of ICP, emphasized that the Authority will provide round-the-clock access to the Blue Visa service through its website and mobile application, ensuring a seamless and efficient processing experience for eligible individuals.

A Strategic Vision for Sustainability

The launch of the Blue Visa underscores the nation’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and innovation. By attracting global sustainability pioneers, this initiative not only enhances environmental initiatives but also fosters a culture of progress and collaboration.
